چکیده

Forty-two ROSAT Position Sensitive Proportional Counter pointed observations in the Ðrst quadrant (l D 4¡È26¡) of the Galactic plane are mosaicked in order to study the spatial structure of the X-rayÈ emitting gas in the Local Hot Bubble (LHB). X-ray intensity variations at various angular scales are examined in the keV band, and degree-scale variations are detected. In the context of the LHB and the 14 displacement model for the origin of the keV band background, the hardness ratio, angular size, and 14 magnitude of the intensity variations suggest that at the ^10% level there is an inÑuence of a clumpy boundary structure superposed upon the emission from the uniformly distributed D106 K plasma of the LHB interior. The possible origins of such a clumpy boundary structure of the LHB are discussed with Rayleigh-Taylor instabilities and clumping of the cooler interstellar medium at the boundary region being likely candidates. ASCA Observation of an “ X - ray Shadow ” in the Galactic Plane

The diffuse X-ray background (DXB) emission near the Galactic plane (l, b ∼ 25.6 • , 0.78 •) has been observed with ASCA. The observed region is toward a Galactic molecular cloud which was recently reported to cast a deep X-ray shadow in the 0.5 − 2.0 keV band DXB. The selection of this particular region is intended to provide a constraint on the spatial distribution of the DXB emission along t...

Spectral Study of the Galactic Ridge X-ray Emission with Suzaku

We have observed a typical Galactic plane field at (l, b) = (2846,−020) with Suzaku for 100 ksec to carry out a precise spectral study of the Galactic Ridge X-ray Emission (GRXE). The field is known to be devoid of X-ray point sources brighter than ∼2×10ergs s cm (2–10 keV), and already deeply observed with Chandra. Thanks to the low and stable background and high spectral resolution of Suzaku,...

A search for soft X-ray emission associated with prominent high-velocity-cloud complexes

We correlate the ROSAT 4 keV all-sky survey with the Leiden/Dwingeloo H i survey, looking for soft X-ray signatures of prominent high-velocity-cloud (HVC) complexes. We study the transfer of 4 keV photons through the interstellar medium in order to distinguish variations in the soft X-ray background (SXRB) intensity caused by photoelectric absorption effects from those due to excess X-ray emiss...

We have surveyed ∼ 50 deg of sky in the largely unexplored 5-10 keV band using the BeppoSAX MECS instrument, finding 180 sources. After correction for the non uniform sky coverage we find about 18 sources deg with F5−10keV > ∼ 5 × 10 erg cm s , and resolve 30-40 % of the hard 5-10 keV Cosmic X-ray Background (XRB). Optical identification of a first small sample of sources show that most (11 out...

X - ray sources resolved in the ASCA Galactic plane survey and their contribution to the Galactic ridge X - ray emission

The X-ray emission from the central region of the Galactic plane, |l| . 45 and |b| . 0. 4, was studied in the 0.7–10 keV energy band with a spatial resolution of ∼ 3 with the ASCA observatory. We developed a new analysis method for the ASCA data to resolve discrete sources from the extended Galactic ridge X-ray emission (GRXE). We successfully resolved 163 discrete sources with an X-ray flux do...
